Pang Da Hai (Boat Sterculia Seed), is a funny little herb. It starts out looking like a pod, and as it steeps in hot water, it opens and blossoms into a gelatinous blob thingy. The taste is very mild. And I often drink these at work, so don't be shy about asking to look in my mug.
Pang Da Hai clears heat from the lungs and benefits the throat, so it is excellent at treating hoarseness. It also can help clear phlegm from a cough. I find it very beneficial to sip throughout the winter months, and I use it regularly with my patients who are musicians, or just like to sing. It may look a bit weird, but it's definitely worth a try!
